Accredited suppliers for electronic patient records launched by NHS

A list of accredited suppliers of electronic patient record solutions has been published by the NHSX and NHS England. This gives purchasers in the NHS more security in their digitisation endeavours.

A new section has been developed in the Health Systems Support Framework by NHS England and NHSX to help integrated care systems and organisations get the best value when purchasing new software, digital services and infrastructure.

Eight companies are on the Lot 1 framework list after being evaluated to deliver the best systems. They meet a vast range of criteria, including being able to operate with other IT systems.

Trusts and other NHS entities are able to digitise quicker because of the framework that was created to support delivery of integrated care. All supplier systems were able to meet the Global Digital Exemplars (GDE) standards.

Matthew Gould, CEO of NHSX, said: “Helping clinicians access and share data effectively is crucial for patient safety. Today’s announcement is about giving care providers the tools they need to achieve this, and a key part of our mission to ensure the NHS benefits from the very best digital services.”

NHS England and improvement, Department of Social Health and Care, NSX, NHS Digital, local care provider organisations, national bodies and regional teams were all part of evaluating the bidders. Chief Information Officers, Chief Nurse Information Officers, Chief Clinical Information Officers, Clinical safety Offices and front-line clinical staff all played a role in making the final decisions.

The bidders were tested against a high quality bar, and had to meet a number of functional requirements within existing operating solutions. This ensured that only the best and most capable bidders were selected.

Suppliers were allowed to offer this functionality in the constraints of a sole solution or over multiple integrated solutions, and had to operate in a supply chain partnership. The eight suppliers who were successful are- Allscripts, DXC, Cerner, Nervecentre, IMS Maxims, Meditech, System C and TPP.

All the bidders were asked to show how they would deliver enterprise wide solutions. They also had to demonstrate how they could provide a basis for modular solutions using thinner deployments, (with or without SMEs), and how they would support the goals set out in “The Future of Healthcare: our vision for digital, data and technology in health and care”. The bidders had to demonstrate and explain how they would interoperate with other systems ensuring that data is available at any time when clinicians needed it, and support the development of integrated Local Health and Care records.
